We're going ahead with Green Cloud-IT. Arvato Systems is constantly striving to optimize the energy supply processes of its own data centers and to ensure energy-efficient operation.
With a power usage effectiveness of 1.43, the Arvato Systems data center in Gütersloh was awarded the "green star" by the eco association for its low CO2 emissions and reduced power consumption. An absorption chiller has been in use in our data center since 2017. It is able to generate cooling from thermal energy and thus supply the servers with cooling air in a much more energy-efficient and cost-effective way. The cooling machine obtains the heat required for the conversion from the block-type thermal power station located on the site. The power plant generates both electricity and heat. In winter the buildings are heated, in summer the servers are cooled. The system is thus not only used more economically, but the additional heat consumption in the summer months now also generates environmentally friendly and cost-effective electricity.
We are continuously optimizing the infrastructure of our data center in order to reduce energy consumption. For example, all UPS systems (UPS: "uninterruptible power supply") were replaced with new, more efficient units.
With the development of a Software Defined DataCenter and the associated increase in cloud offerings, the next green milestone has been reached.
