Background Situation

On January 1, 2019, the law on the serialization of drugs with crypto-coding came into force in Russia. It requires serialisation from July 1, 2020.

According to this, companies that import, manufacture or otherwise handle medicinal products into Russia must provide information about these processes in the system provided for this purpose. In the event of non-compliance with the law, considerable fines or loss of licence may be imposed.

Wörwag Pharma must therefore ensure correct serialisation for more than 80% of its products for the Russian market.

Vision

Wörwag Pharma needed a system that could completely map the worldwide unique complexity of the Russian serialization system for drugs. The aggregation of packages in shipping cartons must also be supported.

At the same time, the system must ensure the transparency of all processes through the smooth communication of all software systems at the pharmaceutical companies, their contract manufacturers and the Russian authorities.

Solution

Following the successful implementation of European drug serialization, Wörwag also opted for the Russian project for Arvato Systems and the Arvato Corporate Serialization Database (CSDB). This brings together all elements of serialization in the pharmaceutical industry. It can be integrated into ERP systems and provides interfaces to production and verification systems. Arvato CSDB depicts various business scenarios specifically for drug serialization in Russia. The system can be hosted at Arvato Systems - Wörwag Pharma has also chosen this route.
