AWS Cloud Migration

Modern Cloud Infrastructure in Amazon Web Services for MISUMI

ArvatoSystems_Kunde_Radio NRW

Arvato Systems supported MISUMI in migrating and modernizing on-premise infrastructure to Amazon Web Services. Previously physically, locally hosted servers could no longer meet the increasing demands for high availability, reliability and scalability.

Upcoming hardware investments and the cloud strategy announced by the Japanese headquarters prompted our customer to migrate to the AWS cloud.

Customer Benefits

High-availability, high-performance and flexibly scaling infrastructure
Reduced maintenance and service efforts through automation
Reduction of operating and hardware costs

Project Overview

Initial situation

Before the project, MISUMI relied on its own locally hosted servers. These could no longer meet the increasing demands for high availability, reliability and scalability. Upcoming hardware investments and the cloud strategy announced by the Japanese headquarters prompted our customer to migrate to the AWS cloud.

Solution

The experts from Arvato Systems took on the full consulting and implementation of the customer's migration plans, both with regard to the use of AWS technology and with a view to O365. In addition to the migration of a Contao system to Amazon Web Services, the transfer of locally hosted Exchange and Sharepoint to a SaaS solution and ultimately the transfer of all remaining servers to the AWS cloud took place. Where possible, refactoring of the application infrastructure was carried out on an EKS cluster basis so that the benefits of the cloud can be optimally exploited in the long term.

Result

All locally hosted server instances were successfully and smoothly migrated to the AWS cloud during ongoing operations, where they benefit from the scalability and performance of the cloud as well as automatic backups, among other things. Arvato Systems also carried out comprehensive cost optimization with regard to AWS costs and ensured effective cost benefits through the use of reservations and spot instances as well as demand-specific offline time windows of the servers, among other things.
