The path leads away from the previous gray areas of messenger use and towards a matter of course, as we have come to know and appreciate in our private lives. With TI 2.0, all healthcare stakeholders now have the opportunity to communicate across sectors in a modern, intuitive, and at the same time, legally and data-secure manner.

With the implementation of a TI messenger, tim+ practices, care services, and homes, as well as specialists and hospitals, can communicate with each other more easily, better, faster, and securely.

The new form of cross-sector exchange is particularly effective in case-based communication in the field of care.

 

tim+: TI Messenger in the care sector

The care sector, in particular, is facing significant challenges in Germany: More and more people are getting older. This means that the number of age-specific symptoms and illnesses is also increasing. As a result, the demands on nursing care will continue to grow. The wave of today's 50 to 85-year-olds alone already accounts for 42 percent - or over 35 million people. It's easy to imagine what's in store for care and relatives. Against this backdrop, a new type of communication and intersectoral exchange is urgently needed and is also possible with the TI messenger tim+. One example where there is currently a lot of interaction between the players is communication on wound management in nursing cases.

Wound management in care cases

In nursing homes or in outpatient care, nursing staff are constantly discovering (new) wounds and skin irritations such as redness in patients. They are part of everyday care. These can be hematomas caused by bruises and falls or sore areas of the body due to bed rest, skin irritation or redness. Older people in particular are much more susceptible due to polymedication. Wound management is and remains a major issue in nursing care.

First point of contact: The general practitioner

If the initial treatment is not sufficient or the wound changes, it is necessary for caregivers to inform the attending general practitioner - in most cases this is done by telephone and the general practitioner usually has to visit the nursing home afterwards or the patient is transported to the doctor's office by ambulance at great expense. The function of a TI messenger is fundamentally simpler here, as it can be used to document the progress of the wound via camera at an early stage and describe the situation to the doctor via voice recording.

The advantages are obvious: the nurses have passed on the update, the doctors decide on the basis of the description and the images whether and when to call back for questions or instructions.

Nursing staff are obliged to inform the attending physicians of any changes anyway, including wounds or even redness on parts of the body. Using tim+, they can fulfill this obligation in the shortest possible time and have automatically documented the communication in the care software via an interface by using the messenger. Communication also goes in the other direction: nursing staff can receive recommendations or instructions more quickly. Other changes to the affected sore skin areas - via fast documentation and secure exchange - also leave the mind free for the essentials in care: the optimal medical care of the patient.

tim+: Saving Time and Nerves - Also for the Benefit of Patients

As the example shows, everyone involved saves a lot of time, ultimately benefiting patients. Unnecessary visits to the doctor are reduced, and the complete wound documentation is automatically stored in the respective care system, so that the nursing staff are legally compliant throughout the process. Using tim+, nursing staff can ensure high-quality patient care at an early stage and in a self-determined manner - with less time and documentation required. TI messengers such as tim+ will be available from 2024, not least for this purpose.

What is essential: A care service needs a TI connection and an SMC-B card to use a TI messenger. The primary contact for this is the existing IT service provider. The TI connection should be discussed and planned with them in advance so that a care service can benefit from all the advantages of tim+ in the future. The fact is: that the mandatory date for connecting care to the telematics infrastructure is now July 1, 2025. The day is approaching: slowly as always - but inevitably. It is therefore advisable to have a TI connection in good time.
